Humanistic Approach

Humanistic approaches to therapy are less structured and open to clients who want to explore themselves on a deeper level. If you’re looking to understand yourself on a more holistic level, this would be a great approach to choose. However, if your goals are more specific, these will be woven into your process but will not be the primary approach used.

What are the 3 types of humanistic therapy treatments?

This collaborative approach blends 3 types of humanism modalities known as client-centred therapy, Existential therapy, and Gestalt therapy. These interventions move away from psychological analysis and take a more introspective approach to the human experience.

What is Client-centered Therapy?

The three main pillars of this approach include using active listening while giving unconditional positive regard and empathy toward your experience and story. This is the foundation of all sessions to ensure that each patient feels heard, validated, and respected.

What is Gestalt Therapy?

Gestalt therapy is a holistic approach that brings the past into the present in fun, and interesting ways and has you engaged in specific exercises, such as “chair work” where the counsellor acts as an observer to allow for more information to be made explicit. Gestalt therapy is a method implemented with clients who are more open-minded to experimental therapy.

What is Existential Therapy?

Existential therapy methods focus on four main concerns that humans structure their lives and ideas around that when skewed, can be rooted in anxiety and fear: life/death, freedom, isolation and meaninglessness. Ultimately these ideas consider meaning or purpose and these questions help us explore your ideologies around these big questions. At Sana Counselling, these methods are interwoven into all methods applied, to ensure that you feel safe, heard and validated.
