Approaches I Use With You

There are many different approaches that are used in counselling and mental health. These methods have proven to work through evidence-based research and each approach is adjusted to cater to the needs of each individual. Some approaches are more analytical, while others are more focused on a blend of the body and mind. Feel free to learn more about the main approaches by visiting the methods page where you can take a dive into the steps that we’ll take together to overcome your anxiety, PTSD or relationship issues. Psycho-education is always offered during sessions so that you understand the purpose behind the work that we are doing and how it is helping you to heal. Psycho-education also offers you with the opportunity to make an informed decision regarding your desire to move forward with a specific approach.

humanisitic approach

This approach is a blend of 3 types of modalities known as Client-centered therapy, Existential therapy, and Gestalt therapy. These move away from psychological analysis and toward listening and being present with the client to integrate their human experiences. Working with the body can be integrated into some aspects of these methods, depending on your goals and what feels comfortable for you.

cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) emphasizes the interplay between our thoughts, behaviour, and more. Patterns and distorted thinking are identified and once addressed, we work to create healthier, adaptive patterns and beliefs.

SOMATIC psychotherapy

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a somatic-based approach that works to resolve trauma. Sensorimotor psychotherapy not only works to expel trauma from the body, but also offers clients resources, both internally and externally, that are useful for their everyday experiences.

EMDR is an integrative psychotherapy where neural networks are identified and processed using Bilateral Stimulation. EMDR has been proven effective for trauma treatment and other mental health issues. Ultimately, EMDR allows you to integrate adaptive perceptions, attitudes and beliefs into your everyday life. EMDR requires less talking and more processing!
